Director: Dr. John Stack The Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy and Citizenship Studies, IPPCS, was founded in 1985 to deepen the study of public policy and citizenship for FIU students, faculty and members of the South Florida community. Its objectives are to provide both traditional and non-traditional educational opportunities for students addressing the responsibilities and opportunities of citizenship; to assist students in understanding the intended and unintended consequences of public policy broadly conceived, and to promote interdisciplinary research efforts among faculty and students on a variety of local, national, and transnational policy matters. The Gordon Institute is one of ten nationally recognized Centers for Academic Excellence in Intelligence Studies offering a variety of programs designed to enhance the understanding of national security through its Program in National Security Studies (PINSS) and its undergraduate and graduate Certificates in National Security Studies. The certificates offer students the opportunity to think critically about national security from a number of academic disciplines. It provides students with the analytical skills to pursue graduate degrees, careers in government and the private sector. A central dimension of the program encourages students to study overseas and to undertake internships in government, business, and non governmental organizations. PINSS also sponsors and co-sponsors seminars, workshops, symposia, conferences and lectures throughout the year.
